The University of Kansas, founded in 1866, is the largest public university in the state of Kansas. KU is famous for the strength of its academic programs, a beautiful wooded campus, and many cultural and recreational opportunities. The university is home to more than 30,000 students, including 1,900 international students and 2,300 faculty members. KU is rated among the top 40 US public universities in academic reputation by the 2009 U.S. News & World Report college guidebook, "America's Best Colleges."
