Program Overview
Wentworth Institute of Technology (Wentworth) offers a Bachelor of Science in Management through the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management. The BS Management has been developed to prepare students for a range of business management career options, and students acquire the various managerial and analytical skills necessary to successfully administer human, natural, and technological resources within an organization. The curriculum covers finance, marketing, operations, organizational behavior, economics, and business law. Classroom studies are complemented by practical hands-on lab work and two required co-op work semesters. The program is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE). Students take a range of general programs in the first year, including English, math, management information systems and oral communications. In the second year, courses become more business specific, and students take classes in subjects including quality control, microeconomics, and students can choose to spend their summer term completing an optional co-op term. The third and fourth years require students to study in all three terms, and complete two required co-ops in the spring of the third year and the fall of the fourth year. In these final two years, students can also take concentration courses to make their degree more subject specific. If enough students are interested, concentrations in technology management, communications, and project leadership are offered.

Wentworth Institute of Technology was founded on April 5, 1904, and for the past 100 years has been a leader in technical and technology education in the United States. Originally the school was set up to teach the 'mechanical arts', but now Wentworth Institute of Technology is an independent, co-educational, nationally-ranked institution offering career-focused education through 14 bachelor's degree programs in areas such as architecture, computer science, design, engineering, engineering technology, environmental science, and management of technology. There is an emphasis on the practical at Wentworth; the school offers one of the largest and most comprehensive cooperative education programs of its kind in the nation, and has been offering a co-op program for over 30 years. The campus is situated in Boston, Massachusetts, on 35-acres of land. The school is part of the Colleges of the Fenway, which means that students are able to take classes and use the resources of 5 other colleges in Boston. Therefore students have all the advantages of studying at a small school, with all the choices and opportunities of a large institution. Boston is famous for being a city of education - there are over 100 colleges and educational institutions in the Boston area, and over 250,000 students in Boston and Cambridge alone. It is also well known as a cultural center, boasting a range of theaters, museums and opera houses. The city also provides opportunities for recreation in the form of restaurants and musical venues. Boston is also known for its professional sports teams and is home to the Boston Red Sox (baseball), Boston Celtics (basketball) and the New England Patriots (football).

Admissions

Wentworth Institute of Technology accepts students based on a variety of criteria, although academic achievement is evaluated mostly based on a student's official high school transcript. Students must have completed a mathematics course of study through the Algebra II (2) level, and at least one laboratory science course (i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics). All applicants must have taken either the SAT or ACT. As Wentworth takes a holistic view of admissions, extracurricular interests also play a part in the evaluation process. Community service, athletic teams, employment, special interests, and various clubs and organizations are good examples of what makes a well-rounded applicant. When submitting the application to the University, students should submit the information below. Students are encouraged to apply online, as the application fee is cheaper, and students can track their application and benefit from a faster evaluation process: • Application fee of $10 (online) or $30 (paper application) • A completed Wentworth application form (online electronic submission is the preferred method) Preferred enrollment term (e.g. fall 2007) and major selected • Official high school transcripts (transfer student applicants must supply a final high school transcript as well as transcripts from all other institutions of higher learning attended) • Official SAT or ACT scores (standardized test scores are welcome but not required for transfer student applicants, unless within a year of high school graduation) • Personal statement or essay (students may upload a pre-formatted Word document into the online application) • Letter of recommendation from a high school guidance counselor or a teacher familiar with overall academic abilities (students may register their referees in the online application) • Students who are not native English speakers must submit a TOEFL score or other recognized demonstration of English proficiency Students can also submit additional supporting information if they deem it useful and relevant.
